Time to tie it all together !

Here is the start of adding the longitudinal stringers to the Frames. The process that I used was to lay the stringers on top of the Frames in the areas where they needed to be fit and scribe a pencil line for the depth that they needed to be "let in" to the Frames.

You can see here that there were some Frames where I made a mistake in where I placed the screws for the Frame gussets. I ended up breaking many of the screw heads off trying to get them out. The epoxy is doing its job ! For those that are building by hand, consider this photo when you are placing the screws !! Learn from my mistakes .... All good though, just takes a bit of time to work around the screw until it falls out.

Sometimes a combination of clamps and ratchet straps worked well for holding stringers in place.

At the beginning I used a Dremel tool to cut the notches but I found that the tool actually made a slot that was too precise and I went to a jigsaw and that gave the stringer some clearance to move around a bit. Plus I needed room for epoxy and filler so a tight fit will no room for epoxy is not a strong bond.

Note the angle of the stinger as it passes the Frame.

The notches are definitely not straight cuts ! You will get a feel for the amount of notching that is required based on where the Frame is on the boat. Frames B and C are about the straightest but they still actually have a small depth difference from the forward side to the backside of the notch.

Nice fit .... :)

A happy moment

This is a view of the stem. The stem needs to be beveled quite a bit !!

The cap still needs to be applied forward of this piece so it will give the final shape to the bow.

On the Setka blogs that they had used a wood bending bar to help form some of the stringers.

Here is mine !! It looks a bit more primitive but it functioned really well. I even gave it a name ..... She is now referred to as

the Capt Morgan TWISTER !!
